It is 9:30 Sunday morning and I am the only one in the house awake. I am still in my pj's with my second cup of coffee enjoying the quiet. Normally we are on our way to church by now, but this has been a very loooong, tiring week and we are "sleeping in". My husband's family business is a retail store and we moved locations this week, after 50+ years in the same location. I have taught school each day, then worked at the store each evening and all day yesterday trying to get up and going. I has been a good move and we have had a good week, but we are exhausted. All this quiet time this morning has given me time to think out an issue I face with the kids and husband, and that is our diet. If you have read my earlier blogs you know I have transitioned to a paleo lifestyle over the last year. I have dropped grains, legumes, dairy and refined sugar from my diet and have taken up running. I have lost 40 pounds, have more energy than I can remember having, and have seen significant health improvements. My husband and girls are healthy, have no weight issues, and do not see the benefits of going paleo. I am convinced they will stay healthy with no health issues if they do go paleo, but I am meeting strong resistance. I have begun a more subtle approach to changing their diet. I will make meals they like, but paleofied, and not make a big deal about it. Hopefully they will not even realize they are paleo as long as they are eating in this house. Outside the home, I have much less control. I am using the book Eat Like A Dinosaur by the Paleo Parents to help with transitioning the kids. This is a great website!
My goals for today include a detail cleaning of my kitchen, a trip to the grocery store, laundry, turning the compost, redoing the worm bin, and getting a run in. I hope to be able to focus on one area of the house each day (flylady.com is a another great website).
My menu for today:
Breakfast -
Lunch - Green Smoothie for me and hubby, cashew butter/jelly sandwiches on grain free bread for the girls
Dinner - Steak, Sweet Potatoes, Brussels Sprouts
Dessert/Snack - Grain Free Chocolate Chip Cookies
I had better get going!
