Exceeding Expectations...

So today I ran a 5K...most of it anyway.  My goal was to run at least half and to finish in 40 minutes.  I ran two and a half of the three miles and finished in 38 minutes.  I call that a success!  I will continue the C25K training program, 4 more weeks to go, then run another 5K this summer.  My goal will be to run the entire length in a to be determined time.  I would like to get under 30 minutes.

I have hit a plateau on my weight loss, though I have continued to eat paleo (no grains, legumes, dairy or refined sugar).  I must cut out the almond flour baked goods for a while and focus on eating more vegetables.  I have set a goal to lose 20 pounds by my birthday on June 21.  That is around two pounds a week.  That will put me withing 20 pounds of my original goal to lose 80 pounds.  :]

Today I had a Cliff Bar before the run. This is not paleo, but it was something quick to eat and not overly filling.  It is high in protein and I thought a good choice before running.  At least it is gluten and refined sugar free.  When I got home I ate two eggs fried over easy in coconut oil and drank some kombucha and pomegranate green tea.  I will have a green smoothie later on this afternoon and stuffed chard for dinner.  I am determined to find ways to eat more greens, which I really don't like very much.  I am growing chard and kale in my garden, I must find a way to eat it for soon I will be covered up in it.

My most recent attempt at home brewed kombucha is almost ready!  I will start the second brew process today and should be able to try it mid week.  Fingers crossed!

For the first time in many years I am taking charge of my life rather than just letting life happen, and it feels good!  My actions and decisions are more intentional and I am becoming a better, healthier person as a result.  I have never been one to set goals and reach them.  I actually did not get into a management training program at a bank because they said I lacked focus.  I would have done very well in the program, but I was the type of person who did my best in whatever situation I found myself in and was usually pretty successful. I know that ultimately I am not in control of my destiny, that God has a plan for me and that plan will carry out regardless of my actions.  I can actually look back and see His hand in various events in my life.  His hand is in this too, and I give Him the glory for any goal I am able to accomplish or any expectation I am able to exceed.
